Harz County takes the protection of personal data very seriously. Below you will find out what data is collected and how it is used. The collection, processing and use of personal data is carried out in accordance with government regulations.
Personal data is information by means of which a person can be identified, e. g. the name, telephone number, bank details, e-mail address. Other data such as hobbies or visited websites are personal data as well if they can be associated with a specific person when merged with other information.
We collect personal data only if it is permitted by law or if we have the consent of the users.
Collecting general information
This website is operated on a web server which, on the basis of our legitimate interest within the meaning of article 6 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) creates log files in which the accesses are logged with IP (access log files). These data will be automatically deleted after 90 days and are intended solely to ward off possible attacks by hackers on the system and for error analysis. These log files are accessed by our ISO 9001:2008 system administrators. The administrators are regularly trained on their special position in dealing with user data.
The following data is recorded in the log files:
- Browser type and browser version
- operating system used
- Referrer URL
- Host name of the accessing computer
- date and time of the server request
- IP address of the accessing computer
- transmitted status code
- search terms entered in the search form
- the retrieved document / page
Anonymous information of this kind is statistically evaluated by us, in order to optimize our internet appearance and the technology behind it.
Like many other websites, we also use so-called "cookies". Cookies are small text files that are transferred from a website server to your hard drive. This automatically gives us certain data, such as your IP address, browser used, operating System from your Computer and your connection to the internet.
Cookies can not be used to launch programs or to transfer viruses to a computer. Based on the information contained in cookies, we can facilitate navigation and enable the correct display of our websites.
In no case will the data collected by us be passed on to third parties or linked with personal data without your consent.
To protect the security of your data during transmission, we use state-of-the-art encryption techniques (such as SSL) over HTTPS.
If you contact us by e-mail, telephone or contact form, the information you have provided will be stored for the purpose of processing the request and for possible follow-up questions in correspondance with article 6 (1) sentence 1 (b) GDPR. We will retain the data you provide on the contact form until the purpose for ist storage no longer pertains. The statutory storage requirements apply.
Use of Matomo (formerly PIWIK)
In order to render our content correctly and graphically appealing across browsers, we use script libraries and font libraries on this website, such as: Google Webfonts (https://www.google.com/webfonts/). Google Webfonts are transferred to the cache of your browser to prevent multiple loading. If the browser does not support Google Webfonts or prohibits access, content will be displayed in a standard font.
The call of script libraries or font libraries automatically triggers a connection to the operator of the library. It is theoretically possible - but currently unclear whether and for what purposes - operators of such libraries collect data.

Embedded YouTube videos
On some of our websites we embed YouTube videos. The corresponding plug-ins are operated by YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. When you visit a page with the YouTube plug-in, it will connect to YouTube's servers. YouTube will be informed which pages you visit. If you are logged into your YouTube account, YouTube can assign your surfing behavior to you personally. This can be prevented by logging out of your YouTube account beforehand.
Anyone who has disabled the storage of cookies for the Google Ad program will not have to expect such cookies when watching YouTube videos. YouTube also stores non-personal usage information in other cookies. If you want to prevent this, you must block the storage of cookies in your browser settings.
Our websites use social plugins of the providers listed below. The plugins can be recognized by the fact that they are marked with the corresponding logo.
These plugins may be used to send information, which may include personal information, to the service provider who may use it. We prevent the unconscious and unwanted collection and transmission of data to the service provider through a 2-click solution. To activate a desired social plugin, it must first be activated by clicking on the corresponding button. Only through this activation of the plugin the detection of information and its transmission to the service provider is triggered. We do not collect personally identifiable information by means of social plugins or their use.
We have integrated the social media buttons of the following companies on our website:
- Facebook Inc. (1601 S. California Ave - Palo Alto - CA 94304 - USA)
Our website uses Google conversion tracking. If you have reached our website via an advertisement sent by Google, Google AdWords will set a cookie on your computer. The conversion tracking cookie is set when a user clicks on a Google-served ad. These cookies lose their validity after 30 days and are not used for personal identification. If the user visits certain pages on our website and the cookie has not expired, we and Google may recognize that the user clicked on the ad and was redirected to this page. Each Google AdWords customer receives a different cookie. Cookies can not be tracked through AdWords advertisers' websites. The information gathered using the conversion cookie is used to generate conversion statistics for AdWords advertisers who have opted for conversion tracking. Customers are told the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a website with conversion tracking. However, they do not receive information that personally identifies users.
If you do not want to participate in the tracking, you can refuse the required setting of a cookie - for example via a browser Setting that generally disables the automatic setting of cookies or sets your browser to block cookies from the domain "googleleadservices.com".
Please note that you can not delete the opt-out cookies as long as you do not want to record measurement data. If you have deleted all your cookies in the browser, you must set the respective opt-out cookie again.
